Getting a faceplated TKO 600

I did the research and feel pretty good about this. It is faceplated in 2nd and 3 gears (not 4th) with a broken 1st gear. I'm paying $710 total which includes shipping from Wash. state and a MGW shifter with T handle.
Assuming the worst, I will need to buy a new 1st gear and cluster shaft (counter shaft) which will cost $400.
According to some trans shops I may not need to replace the cluster which would be quite a savings.
Overall this would be a good upgrade since I have an older tko, the 600 has stronger gears, etc.
If this works as well as I expect I may change my name to "Proshift Bob"

Re: Getting a faceplated TKO 600

George, I'll be keeping my current TKO for the time being in case when I put the faceplated version in the car I decide I don't like it.
However, after looking at my recent dyno sheet it looks like I need to shift close to 7k rpm which my old TKO is not going to do. I tried it this weekend at Countyline and even at 6500 2nd was hit or miss.
So it either a faceplated trans or an auto if I want to get the most out of the car.

It is a process where the syncros are removed, in my case 2nd and 3rd gear. The teeth are ground off the face of the gears being modified and a new "plate" with very wide teeth are welded on in place of the small syncro teeth. The slider (it connects the selected gear to the main shaft) is modified to match so they engage.
This make the trans shift much faster and at higher rpm. It does make street driving more difficult, you have to either double clutch or match revs to make a quiet shift but I think it will be worth it at the track. People who run them sound like they are running an automatic.

I've got an in car video of someone driving one, very impressive.

Try it,I would just change cams,Or degree the cams so you do not have to shift as high/Stress the shortblock.
